Coal City Public Library - part 2

This is not the first library I've been to that has a board game/party game collection, nor even the only one to keep their collection in the YA area (is the perception that adults don't play games as much...?). But this is the first one I've seen to have Balderdash. I have got to play Balderdash all of one time. I liked it, but the Mrs. didn't. I don't think we even own it anymore now.  The moral of this is -- contact me if you want to play Balderdash!

Yesterday I was commenting on how Old School the Coal City teens must be to like the 1966 Batman TV series. Here we find that anime is still a big thing in Coal City (indeed, the graphic novel section is packed with manga!). This seems to be behind the trend that I hear about up north that manga circulation has been dwindling.

I asked about this rather stern warning. Apparently, this came after just a few instances of magazine theft. Am I wrong in thinking this warning is a little overkill-ish?

When I archived newspaper articles at my last job, they just went in hanging folders. Someone at Coal City really showed me up with these ...giant hanging display boards (not sure what to call them, actually). This was fun to flip through!

I used to think Illinois Compiled Statues was a lot rarer in libraries than it is turning out to be -- which is a good thing! Those village code binders look pretty sweet too. Local and state documents side-by-side!

The library is like a museum for local history. I assumed this was because the library doubled as the town's history museum, but a librarian told me this was incorrect -- Coal City also has a history museum! This is a community very proud of its history.

One of the permanent displays in the museum section of the second floor are all these dioramas someone made, and donated to the library, of all the public places in town. This is -- very cool -- the library inside the library.

I like this signage that, for those who are Dewey-challenged, gives you examples of what you can find in each range.
