Coal City Public Library - part 1

Our tour of southern Illinois continues...more south!

This time we pick up at the Coal City Public Library, with not a smudge of coal in sight!
This is a big display near the entrance (not sure if this one was permanent or temporary). It's a large (over 3' tall) dollhouse from someone in the community.
At my last library, we'd get asked sometimes if we could laminate something for patrons. We had two laminate machines in the building, but they were both for staff use only. This library has figured out how to make it a public service, and advertise it right up front at the circulation desk.
They have exercise equipment! And not "available on request" equipment either, this is sitting out for anyone to use, right by the YA area (as demonstrated by my well-balanced Mrs.!).
I was excited to see one action figure on a shelf in Round Lake. Here's a whole bunch of them, plus a lot of other things, decorating the top of every shelving unit in the Children's area.
A walk-in playhouse, also in Children's.
An early view of the upstairs (more on that tomorrow!), plus a realllly high sign for those picture books!
I've seen libraries advertise their services before plenty of times. But with the "Batman slapping Robin" meme? That's contemporary!
Speaking of Batman...I was so excited to see this on the YA bulletin board. What a great idea, making a library event out of celebrating Adam West's birth (even if it's a little weird to wish it to him, since he's dead). And how cool is it if the local Coal City teens like the 1966 Batman series?
