Harold Washington Library Center, Chicago Public Library - part 6

I've finally reached the end of my photos I took on my last trip to CPL's main library. And the place is so big, I only took pictures of half of it!

I think I'd previously talked about how hard it was to get good pictures outside, but even though I didn't get much of the building itself in this photo, I still like how it turned out.
I'm always excited to see an old card catalog, but even more excited to see a card catalog that still has cards in it!
Just as I was excited to see local documents this old. 1911 is older than most of the municipalities I've worked in have been incorporated, so I haven't had the pleasure of working with many documents this old. I always marvel at how books used to be made to withstand the march of time; the bindings on these bad boys will probably hold up well past when most books from the 1980s or 1990s have fallen apart.
Spotting this sitting out was a special treat; this Smokey the Bear comic book was one of my favorite government documents at my old library. I sure hope someone saves that copy when the library dumps the last of their government documents into the trash.
Reference books! I was just at another library the other day without a reference collection. I love seeing these familiar book spines all facing out in the same section.
You can't go very far without tripping over a scanner in this building!
I've seen computer stations reserved for job searches, and for government document searches in general, but never for patent and trademark searches specifically before. I wonder how often it gets used.
Symmetry!
And finally, a glimpse of Americana Submarine, just down the street from the library, that I didn't enjoy on this trip, but hopefully will the next time I visit CPL.
