Harold Washington Library Center, Chicago Public Library - part 5

That's right, I still haven't run out of photos to share. This time, we'll be looking at something dear to my heart that I've been posting about lately anyway -- government documents!

CPL has an amazing government document collection. See how tightly packed those shelves are? That's just serials!
When I was a government documents librarian, we prided ourselves on our Census collection, but it didn't hold a candle to this comprehensiveness.
More Census books...like a stroll down memory lane...
The placement of this fire extinguisher says "SAVE THESE BOOKS FIRST!"
Local documents! Be still, my beating heart.

CIA maps, carefully filed away in envelopes (we just smooshed ours together on shelves).

A LOT of map drawers, mostly full, but I don't think they all were. The tops of these tables are scarily clear, suggesting they don't get used much.

Now, what I might have done, like I did at my last library, would be take some of this great atlas collection and spread them open on the tabletops. Give passing patrons some pretty maps to stop and peruse.

Speaking of pretty, let's pause and check out the awesome alcove to the side of the map tables. Nice!
