...And we're back, peeking through the window like weirdos into the teen lounge. What's coming up in the teen lounge? Not a lot of gaming, apparently. I hope they have more games tucked away in a closet somewhere, because that collection looks a little anemic...
Now this photo needs to be seen with the one below it to get a sense for how excited I was when I came upon this aisle. Because it looks like, from this end, that these are two long rows full of graphic novels. Actually, the graphic novels only go halfway on both sides, but initally it looks really impressive.
I didn't take any close-up photos to show off their selection. There's a good number of lesser known titles here, but typical of YA graphic novel collections these days, it tends to favor newer stuff almost exclusively without much historical context.
Now this shelf was great to see! Just a ways down from the graphic novels is this half-shelf of Dungeons & Dragons material. Again, it's mainly just the newest edition, but at least there is some historical context here, with volumes from two editions ago included.
The puzzle table is becoming a library staple, but note how this one includes a board for putting the finished puzzle on, and trays for separating out pieces into.
The library keeps its study rooms in a very central location. Staff doesn't have to worry about missing patrons left in the study rooms at closing with these all-glass walls.
Frosted glass is becoming the new thing at libraries because it looks nice and afford semi-privacy (but not a lot of privacy) to the patrons on the other side. It can make it difficult to tell what's on the other side sometimes, though; you have to look pretty closely to tell this room is a computer lab.
I was happy to find a citizenship corner, though "corner" is a bit of a misnomer here, as it's just a section of shelves tucked away next to the reference collection.
It saddens me to see reference collections have gone from central locations to, here, being tucked away in an aisle marked "oversize." Still, it might be small and it might be a terrible location, but the the library has done a good job of keeping all of its sources up-to-date -- and I mean all of them! Check out the 2016 on those Illinois Compiled Statutes! Of all the libraries I've visited so far, very few were this up-to-date on the Statutes.
