Library under fire for sexually explicit subscription box material

My first thought upon reading this headline was, this seems like a sure-fire way to get people into the library. Unfortunately, the library in question got into trouble for its sexually explicit subscription box material.

And that's a shame because it seems like a great idea. The idea being:

"By Austin Ramsey Messenger-Inquirer
"The Daviess County Public Library is making adjustments to its teen book giveaway program this month after coming under fire from some parents regarding the sexually explicit nature of a romance-themed selection.

"Library Director Erin Waller says she is considering creating two eligible age groups for monthly LibCrate subscription boxes and that her staff will make a disclaimer statement parents or guardians must check off before receiving those boxes even more apparent.

"The library launched LibCrate in May through a partnership with Washington D.C.-based First Book, a nonprofit international literacy organization that connects young adults and children with overstock books from publishers. At DCPL, teens or their parents or guardians have to sign up monthly to reserve one of about 24 boxes that are available. Each box contains two books and an assortment of free material like pencils, pens or bookmarks that complement a monthly theme."

Which is a fantastic idea, capitalizing on the popularity of the "Lootcrate" craze (which may have already peaked, but isn't over yet). This is definitely something more libraries should be looking into...only maybe making the sexually explicit subscription box material available to adults-only...
