Carol Stream Public Library - Holiday Update

I'm getting to this one a little late in the season, but I wanted to share what I found at the Carol Stream Public Library when I revisited it earlier this December.

This is not the first time I've seen backdrops for photographs arranged in public libraries, but this is the best seasonal one I've seen. I remember when my old library used to make you go to administration and fill out paperwork before you could take photos in the library, and now here we are encouraging patrons to do it. Progress!

It makes sense too; in this social media age, we can safely assume that any photo taken in the library is going to be shared and become free publicity.

I'm less sure about this. Yes, it was very convenient when I needed a guest pass to just walk up and take one, but I suspect this policy was enacted for more than just convenience, since the computer lab was unmanned the whole time of my visit. In general, I always prefer policies that force patrons to interact with a librarian, even if it's just to get handed a slip of paper.
Carol Stream has more operational transparency than any other library I've yet seen, mainly due to the fact that most of the staff operates behind this glass wall that everyone can look through! You can see here how the CSPL staff roll with it and decorate their interior space for the benefit of the patrons looking in.

Plus, that's just one great Bumble Monster inflatable figure. If only my photo had come out better!
