Since I loved the Arcola Public Library I have a lot more pics to show off, and some of them are like this mantle -- it's got nothing to do with librarianship, but it sure is cool to look at.
I can't usually show in a single picture how well-organized these library family history folder collections are, but this one has a nice sign above the drawers that lays out what's in them all.
When I put together the history of my last library, it only went back to the 1950s. That had nothing on Arcola, which tracks its history back to 1905.
The references to "My Story" and "He's Not Your Average Joe" refer to this story -- Arcola's second biggest claim to fame.
This was an adorable idea and I wish, when I was archiving historical photos, I had summer reading program photos spread five years apart like this.
I apologize for the blurriness of this one, but the ceiling of the entrance foyer was quite impressive.
Newspapers on dowels! I always like seeing this.
Now you'll see it again just because I liked the fireplace so much.
If I recall correctly, the drawers were empty and the card catalog was just being used as a decoration/plant stand.
Normally I have to take separate photos of Chilton manuals and Illinois Compiled Statues, but Arcola made it easier for me. And you even get some classic reference items like World Book in between!
Curious, though...some of those Statutes are dated 2012 and others are still 2010. It looks like they stopped getting the updates halfway.
