Way to go, Janesville!

Janesville library two-thirds of way to renovation fundraising goal

"Hedberg Public Library has raised about two-thirds of its $1.7 million goal for its extensive Transform Your Library renovation project..."

Libraries raising money to renovate or expand is not really new news; it happens everywhere. But I wanted to share this particular article because it's Janesville, Wisconsin. Now, I haven't been to Janesville in years, and maybe they have really turned things around since I was last there, but when I was last there, Janesville was like a ghost town. This article talks about the GM plant closing in Janesville in 2009 and the ripple effects of that, that are still occurring there.

Apparently, things are better there now and Janesville is recovering. But that a city that has gone through that and is still able to turn around and invest $1.7 million into a library...?

To those who say libraries are dead or on their way out, I point out how much the people of Janesville -- who certainly remember what financial insecurity is like -- care to have a decent library.
