More on Topical Government Documents

I do have more photos from the Chicago Public Library that I haven't shared, but before I get back to those...

My last two posts were about government documents that are critical reads to understanding current political events, and the importance of making them available to library patrons.

I'm not alone in this; Kelly L. Smith, Librarian for U.S. & San Diego Government Information, has put together a Libguide for whistleblower documents that is far more comprehensive than I was putting together here.

Earlier today -- too late for me to advertise now, unfortunately -- was a NCLA GRS webinar, from their "Help! I'm an Accidental Government Information Librarian" series, called "Advertising Government Documents: Simple and Easy Ways to Raise Awareness of Collections." We all want to promote our collections no matter what they are, gov docs collections or otherwise.

By staying on top of current events and pushing factual information on current events, we can become an important part of the conversation our patrons are having. This is much more important than hiding from current issues in an effort to emphasize our neutrality.
