Well, it was 41 degrees and sunny today...time to go back to visiting libraries!
This was my first ever visit to the Warrenville Public Library (indeed, it might have been my first time ever stopping in Warrenville and not passing through). As you can see, it's a very nice building with an entryway reminiscent of the Barrington Area Public Library.
But check out these front doors! I can't think of any library I've been to with front doors this distinctive.
This one came out a little blurry, but you can see at the bottom that this library is pretty new, having been built in 2003.
So, I get inside and I'm expecting a big front room with a really high ceiling and I get...this small room. What a switch! The front room is a cozy little lounge with the snack machine, some tables, and the paperback swap stands.
On the other side of the room are these postings of upcoming programs. I was excited to see a Dungeons & Dragons program, but for teens only. Darn the luck!
The staircase was flooded with so much sunlight from the windows that I couldn't get any more good pics of it than this, showing the top. In the corner you can see part of one of the 2D sculptures adorning the walls of the stairwell.
I'm at the top of the stairs now and it occurs to me -- I haven't reached a desk with anyone sitting at it yet! Where is circ? It's actually just a little ways ahead of me, but over here on my left is a scanning and copying area. Very convenient for the library user who wants to scan and go!
I couldn't actually take a pic of the circ desk because there was a worker right there and I don't post pics of staff or patrons. I can tell you that it's a really small desk and it has no signage telling anyone what it is. But I was assured that I had found the circulation desk.
So I'll show you this picture of what was across from the scanning and copying area; the new book shelves. Over the top of them, you can see that I am finally in one big room that keeps going and going. I believe that was the DVD collection in the background.
Here is the Teen Lounge, so Warrenville is another library that encloses its teens (there would be none in there when I took this, as school was still in session). I didn't go inside, but from out here it looked pretty small and low tech inside. It's more of a hangout room than anything.
I'm struck by what appears to be a strange cut-off year for the teen lounge. 17? Are high school seniors not allowed to consort with their lower classmates here?
