The Improbability of Love

I started reading this novel just recently, based on the recommendation of a pen pal. My pen pal, who is from Belgium, was recently scolding me for not liking The Only Story.  Americans, I was told, are too obsessed with things needing to be exciting all the time.

This book, I am told, is full of exciting things. It's also chock-full of characters -- I count 40 of them already, just introduced in the first 20 pages -- and I'm concerned I'm going to need a scorecard to keep track of them all. But we'll see...
