Town and Country Public Library

I was recently out in Elburn to watch the filming there for a new HBO series there (true story!), but made sure to visit the Town and Country Public Library while I was just down the block from it.

One of the standouts of the library is that it has the nicest-looking free* coffee bar I've ever seen in a library (*free, with a requested donation to the Friends of group).  It makes me wish I liked coffee.

Found in the magazine section. I'm not from Kane County, so KC magazine probably doesn't speak to me -- but if your area has a local magazine like this, then make sure you carry it.

Unless your library is going for an ultra-modern look, antiques always look good in a library (it's a shame, though, that this clock does not appear to work any longer; or perhaps it just needs a good winding).

Big, bold signage was actually achieved by having banners printed and then mounted on thick poster board. Cheaper than having giant plaques made, and the money-saving technique is barely discernible at a distance.

Local history, a favorite of mine.

Important information!  And located right across from the Internet computers, where so much fake news dwells.

These posters are popular in libraries these days. This one is tied to the reading program; if the community reads enough books, then more of these stickers get filled in, and everyone gets to see what the mystery image is.

The Internet access at Town and Country bears further mention. It is no longer the case, but this was the very last public library I ever visited that had no reservation software on its computers, and was the last library of its kind until my recent visit to College of DuPage Library.

If you have something cool at home, just gathering dust, bring it to the library and make an exhibit of it!  I have still not cracked the secrets of the floating globe (though I'm sure touching it would take all the mystery out of it).
