Schaumburg Township District Library

There have been hints this one was coming ever since I covered their Hanover Park Branch.

This is the Schaumburg Township District Library, or at least its unassuming front entrance on the west side. There is a beautiful pool, fountain, and gardens on the east side, out what is actually the library's back door, that you won't get to see unless you go visit the place!

Other libraries have inside food cafes, but none I am as big a fan of than this one. The Texas toast sandwich is to die for!

Schaumburg has really embraced graphic novels. When you walk into the fiction section, this display faces you immediately. To the left (just out of the picture) is where the adult fiction graphic novel section is housed. Then there is also a sizable collection of them in the adult nonfiction collection at 741.5, plus YA has its own sizable collection, and Children's has their own collection too. There is some overlap; for examples, you can find Marvel's Thor in three sections, and DC's Challengers of the Unknown and Marvel's Marvel-Two-in-One in two different sections.

Speaking of Children's, the Children's room has a play area decorated with life-size bas relief statues depicting classic cover art from children's literature. This is one of my absolute favorites -- both as a child and an adult -- Michael Hague's illustrated version of the Wind in the Willows.

And, last but not least, one of my favorite parts of STDL -- the chairs. These chairs are stationed at every public computer in the library, and they are among the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat in.
