Making connections with the local job club

There was a long time before my old library had its own e-mail server, so I still have a lot of old correspondence saved that I had to send from my personal account back then.

This piece takes me back to when I was still solely in charge of the programming for job seekers, a task I had volunteered for when I realized we had nothing for them. This is before we started our long partnership with the Illinois WorkNet Center to run the workshops for us, so I was creating the content myself back then.

This was when I reached out to the Streamwood Job Club, sponsored by Elgin Community College and run out of the neighboring Streamwood Village Hall. I wasn't looking for support so much as I was for useful resources to share with our job seekers. I was very impressed with what Kathy had put together -- both in terms of guest speakers and following. Back in 2011, when I might have 8-10 people show up at the library for my workshops, her club was standing room only, with more people listening from the hallway outside! 2011 was just a really desperate time for a lot of people, and I'm glad I was doing things to help.
