the very first time on this day in 1895, U.S. Government documents,
including 11 congressional publications, were shipped from GPO to
Federal depository libraries."

[Update: Or was it? After some discussion of this on the NIDL listserv, it seems Northwestern University Library was designated a
federal depositoryin 1876? And GPO confirmed this with a certificate for their 140th anniversary a couple years ago. So...somebody got something wrong one of these two times?]
