Hanover Park Branch Library

There was a break in the heatwave this evening, so I headed over to the Hanover Park Branch Library to take a fresh look around.  I had started this blog writing about the other branch in Hanover Park , so I thought I'd better waste no more time in getting this one covered.

This is the Schaumburg Township District Library's branch in Hanover Park and -- not surprisingly, since this is wealthy Schaumburg we're talking about -- their branch is bigger than Poplar Creek Public Library's Hanover Park branch.

I found this intriguing because, at my last job, I had looked into this program for the library, but decided I had too much on my plate to pursue it. I'm glad Schaumburg did, and wonder how many people show up for it.

The branch was built back at the height of popularity for computer labs in libraries, so this branch is built around the central computer lab inside. I couldn't take a picture of it because there were still too many people there, though it was as empty as I'd ever seen the lab.

STDL, both at the main and the branch, were good at creating themed children's areas.  I like that the branch has this fake medieval castle in it.  It looked pretty messy in there tonight, but I can't tell you how typical that is.

The branch has a nice quiet room where the newspapers and magazines are located. The room has a fake fireplace (another thematic link to the main library), though I've never seen it turned on.

The branch also has a really nice YA section...but I'll get back to that later.
